Rummy King Rules

The Rummy King app supports several different variations of the card game, each with their own unique set of rules. Here I’ll give you a high-level overview of the rules for Indian Rummy, a well-liked variant. It is recommended that you look over the app’s rules and tutorials for specific instructions as the app may have its own variations or additional features. The basics of Indian Rummy are as follows:

The goal of Indian Rummy is to get your score as close to zero as possible by using the cards you have in hand to complete valid sets and sequences.

  • When playing Indian Rummy, two standard decks plus one joker deck are used. There are 52 cards in a standard deck, with an arbitrary number of jokers added. It’s usually played with anywhere from two to six people.

  • At the start of the game, each player receives a set number of cards (typically 10). A draw pile is made from the remaining cards in the deck, and a discard pile is made by turning over the top card of the draw pile.

  • The cards must be combined in legal ways in order to win. Three or four cards of the same rank from different suits constitute a set, while three or more cards of consecutive ranks in the same suit constitute a sequence.

  • Jokers are useful for completing sets and sequences when necessary. But there’s usually a cap on how many jokers you can use in a row.

  • Each turn, the active player chooses whether to draw from the draw pile or the discard pile. The player must put one card from their hand onto the discard pile after each draw. It’s acceptable for the discarded card to be the one they just drew.

  • Declaring victory requires a player to use all of their cards to create legal sets and sequences before discarding their final card. After that, anyone with unscathed cards in their hands can meld them for a shot at a higher score.

  • In Indian Rummy, the cards are assigned point values. The value of aces is 1, face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10, and numbered cards are worth their numerical value.
